Recommendation Confirms Best Manufacturing Practices and Strengthens the Company’s Position in the Animal Nutrition and Health Sector
Uisa, one of Brazil’s largest and most integrated biorefineries, has made significant strides in its sustainability journey. Through its business unit, Uisa BioNutrition, the company has received a recommendation for GMP+ FSA (Good Manufacturing Practices) certification, recognizing its commitment to food safety within the animal nutrition and health sector.
The recommendation was issued by Control Union, the certifying body that assessed Uisa’s policies, processes, and integrated management system documentation, confirming the company’s compliance with the GMP+2020 certification framework. This certification integrates GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) principles with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) elements, ensuring that every stage—from production to packaging and commercialization—is conducted in a safe and controlled manner.
“From cultivation to the final product, we think and act sustainably. The production of yeast and its derivatives at Uisa is the result of circularity embedded within our production ecosystem. The recommendation for GMP+ FSA certification validates our ongoing efforts to achieve the highest standards of excellence and quality, ensuring that our yeast production process meets international market requirements and expands Uisa’s export opportunities,” highlights Caetano Henrique Grossi, Uisa’s Sustainability Manager.
Uisa’s yeast production originates from the treatment of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast, used in ethanol production. The company manufactures four categories of yeast-based products—inactive dry yeast, autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed yeast, and yeast cell wall—serving as nutritional components for various animal species, including cattle, poultry, aquatic animals, and swine.
Cássio Palhano, Industrial Production Manager at Uisa, emphasizes the significance of the certification recommendation in reinforcing the company’s positioning in the animal nutrition market. “Our yeast and derivative production facility was established in 2023. Today, by integrating industrial technology, biotechnology, and research, our teams are dedicated to delivering high-quality products with a strong focus on safety and sustainability. This recognition enhances our credibility both domestically and internationally, reaffirming our commitment to operational excellence,” says Palhano.
Uisa has already accumulated a total of 11 certifications aligned with national and international sustainability standards, reinforcing its responsible management of sugarcane and its byproducts. “With this recommendation, we conclude our internal and external audit cycle for 2024. These certifications further underscore our dedication to the sustainable development of our production chain,” Grossi concludes.
